Prosecutors enhance mainstreaming of international best practices

New recommendations and standards for prosecutors were the focus of discussion at the "Developing Guidelines and SOPs for Prosecutors in Ukraine" workshop which took place on 18 December 2019 and was jointly organized by the European Union Advisory Mission in Ukraine and the European Union funded PRAVO Police, on the initiative of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.

In his remarks, the First Deputy Prosecutor General Vitalii Kasko noted that even when invoking detailed provisions of the Criminal Procedural Code, a prosecutor retains wide discretion on many issues, which exposes the process to the risk of corruption.

To address this gap experts from the PGO and regional prosecution offices as well as experts from Germany, Sweden, Georgia, Moldova and the US came together to study best practices for developing guidelines and SOPs for prosecutors. In doing so, the PGO presented its vision for guidelines and SOPs, while the international experts provided their recommendations and comments.
